Inauguration of the Pilot Project:
Inaugural function of the Pilot Project of door to door solid waste collection program was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Mayor Mrs. Dolly Borah with a large gathering which was accompanied by several dignitaries like Mr. Rajesh Prasad, Commissioner, Guwahati Municipal Corporation; Mr. Kamal Dey, Hon’ble Deputy Mayor, Guwahati Municipal Corporation: Mr. Kushal Sarma, Councilor of Ward No. 34 and Ex. Hon’ble Mayor; Mr. Shyam Kanu Mahanta.
Inauguration of Door-to-Door Solid Waste collection:
After completion of Survey and intensive awareness campaigns in project area, Hon’ble Mayor Mrs. Dolly Borah has done the inauguration of door-to-door waste collection project on 27th October’07. A public gathering is addressed by many dignitaries like Mr. Rajesh Prasad (I.A.S), Commissioner Guwahati Municipal Corporation; Mr. Kamal Dey, Hon’ble Deputy Mayor, Guwahati Municipal Corporation: Mr. Kushal Sarma, Councilor of Ward No. 34 and Ex. Hon’ble Mayor; Mr. Shyam Kanu Mahanta, CEO of IDCAL; Principal P. Chakraborty and Prof. J. Kalita, Advisor of ENVIRON.

Door to door segregated waste collection Activities:

After formal inauguration of project, door-to-door segregated collection of waste has been started with the help of ten containerized Rickshaws. Initially first day collection was started in Kanwachal area from 4p.m. to 8p.m. Finally After discussion with IDCAL, GMC, and with the local community the working schedule for door to door waste collection, street sweeping and drain desiliting has been planned for morning hours and accordingly time scheduled was fixed from 5 A.M. to 12 Noon.
Meeting with Residents and Community:

Regular meetings and interactions were held with the residents and community of the areas where the door to door solid waste collection was implemented. All the grievances and suggestions were noted and acted upon
Collection of user charges:

As per the notification issued by the Commissioner, Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) on 10th December 2007 and immediately after publication in a local daily newspaper on 13th December 2007, door to door collection of user charges was started. The user charges were fixed at Rs. 50.00 as per the notification.
