History of SWM Activities

IX. Year-2012-2013:

Community Development through Vermicomposting and Organic Farming

ENVIRON have started the project activities of “Community Development through Vermicomposting and Organic Farming and Mitigation of Land Degradation in Hollongi Village, Papum Pare District”since 1st week of September, 2012. The duration of the project is one year and supported NABARD, Itanagar under the Rural Innovative Project (RIF).

Innovation component in the Project:

  1. Development of a simplified technology for continuous collection of Vermiwash.
  2. Introduction of household level simplified backyard Vermicomposting with continuous collection of Vermiwash collection system.
  3. Construction of two numbers separate Compost pit for each “Vermicompost Unit”, as earth worm consume only decomposed biodegradable materials and not even semi decomposed materials. On the other hand during the time of decomposition, generated heat kills earth worm, which is common in present practice. Idea of two nos. compost pit is to utilize only decomposed biodegradable solid waste, one by one in a continuous process.
  4. Utilization of weeds, agricultural waste along with water hyacinth etc. for the assimilation of earthworm.
  5. Development of a model through an ideal organic farming practice by using Vermicompost as organic manure and Vermiwash as bio-pesticide cum organic manure.
