History of SWM Activities

The major objective of the promotion of earthen cup was to convey the massage of city garbage management. ENVIRON has developed a waste to wealth programme to solve the municipal solid waste problem and also to help in generation of employment.

As the part of “YEAR OF SCIENTIFIC AWARENESS-2004” a 7 days awareness camp on “City Garbage Management” was jointly organized by ENVIRON, BJVJ Assam and Assam Science technology and Environment Council (ASTEC) at the 5th National Expo, Judges field, Guwahati from 4th November to 10th November, 2004. The awareness camp was inaugurated by the deputy commissioner Guwahati (metro), Absar ali Hazarika at 11 a.m. on 4th November, 2004 and presided over by Dr. A. K. Barua, Director, ASTEC.

According to the deputy commissioner A. K.Abser Hazarika earthen cup is not only environmental friendly but would also go a long way in reducing the city’s garbage load. Hazarika also urged the citizens to start using earthen cups. Dr. A. K. Barua, Director, ASTE Council said-reducing the use of plastic would help to solve the garbage and water logging problems in the city as well.
