History of SWM Activities

ENVIRON has conducted a remarkable study on “Recyclable and Non Recyclable Plastic and its of Assam” from November 2005 to January, 2006.

ENVIRON has also conducted a survey on “Present Solid Waste Management Practices In Guwahati by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation” during the month of February March 2006.

From 5th to 7th May, 2006 ENVIRON has organized 3 days “Awareness and Training Programme on Solid Waste Resource Management” at greater Noonmati area of Guwahati as the part of National Environment Awareness Campaign Programme sponsored by Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India.

Moreover ENVIRON president Amarjyoti Kashyap was invited by the Assam Science Society (Nodal agency of NEAC Programme) as the resource person for the pre programme workshop of NEAC programme.

On 9th June 2006, Assam Engineering College, Guwahati has jointly organized an Awareness Programme on Solid Waste Management under NEAC programme along with ENVIRON.

III. Year-2006-2007:

Moreover, ENVIRON have conducted total 24 nos. awareness and training programme along with practical demonstration including workshop and seminar on Solid Waste Resource Management from April 2006 to March 2007 at different places in Assam specially in Guwahati.

ENVIRON have successfully completed survey on Total Solid Waste Generation in Greater Guwahati from February 2006 to July 2006. As per the recent statistics compiled by the ENVIRON Guwahati City generates 4 lakhs kg. Biodegradable solid waste, 5000 kg. Plastic waste, 1 lakh kg. Glass and Bottle waste and 2 lakhs kg. Tin and Iron waste per day.

From 7th to 13th August, 7 days Workshop on Earthen Pots was organized by ENVIRON at Noonmati, Guwahati-21. Where, 1,50,000 earthen cups were distributed.

From January 7 to 6th February 2007 at Narangi Anchalik College, Guwahati, ENVIRON have successfully completed one month Vocational Training Programme on “Vermicomposting and Entrepreneurship Development” along with Awareness Programme on “Creation of Work Culture Attitude and develop the concept of Self Dependance” among the students in their life through the marketing of produced natural resources of N. E. region.

ENVIRON has organized various Awareness generation programme and community meeting on Solid Waste Management, specially on Plastic Waste Management at different places of Guwahati City from May 2007 which is continuing with different programmes.

In this connection ENVIRON is promoting “Earthen Cup” instead of “Plastic Cup” and “Paper Carry Bag” instead of “Plastic Carry Bag” along with the awareness programmes on “Solid Waste Management” at different places of Guwahati.

ENVIRON is promoting two types of “Litter Bin”. One is for Biodegradable solid waste and another one is for Non-Biodegradable solid waste for every residence, office and commercial house initially at Guwahati. The objective is to segregate the “Solid Waste” at the source for future use through the “Awareness and Training Programme on Solid Waste Resource Management”.
