Awareness and Training Programme on Solid Waste Management in Itanagar:

With the financial support of EEJP small grant project ENVIRON have successfully complete Awareness and Training Programme on Solid Waste Management in Itanagar. The project was commenced from 1st July, 2011 and ended on 31st December, 2011. The major objectives of the project was to generate awareness and to develop the concept of utilization of solid waste and also to develop behavioral change on to stop “use and throw practice” particularly among the students along with the introduction of Health and Hygiene practices among the students of Itanagar.

In this respect ENVIRON have organized 4 awareness generation cum training programme in four different Schools and 8 in different community level and distributed twenty nos. litterbins along with 8 sets of hygiene kits bearing nail cutter and magnifying glass in schools and also distributed twenty five numbers “Well Ring” among the community to establish backyard composting and Vermicomposting within a small space and formed “Hygiene Club” both in schools and at community level.

ENVIRON have organized community level awareness cum training programme within the college campus of Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar and at Papu Nallah and at C Sector, Naharlagun for promotion of backyard composting and making of plastic garland from different plastic wrappers or packets and making of pillow/cushion from available plastic waste in the households .

ENVIRON is promoting paper bags to introduce in the market of Itanagar. In this connection on 07-08-2011, a daylong awareness and training programme was conducted. Moreover, ENVIRON have also organized awareness and training programmes among the Rag-pickers community in Naharlagun for non-biodegradable solid waste management.

ENVIRON have organized school awareness and training programmes at Vivekananda Central School, Vivek Vihar, Itanagar on 06-09-2011, at Arunodaya Govt. Higher Secondary School, Itanagar on 09-09-2011, at King Cup Public School, Itanagar on 19-09-2011 and at D Sector Govt M.E. School, Naharlagun on 01-12-2011.

Accordingly, a “Hygiene Club” was formed under the supervision of the teachers and required materials like magnifying glass nail cutter, register book etc. was provided to the club.
